Soft Openings Tour, the birth of Physical Release

December 27th, 2010

A cultivation of confusion induction across the country for the sake of love or art or the coyote spirit. lay hands upon the beauty, full of it, what? this. More like a purveyance of vibrations than making something as traditional as music. For this sake, I’m not sure we even “got” what we were doing, but we drove it out and it curled. A spiral in this circle, birthplaces, a meeting of all the ones who gave us life, crooked with their own confusion. “… so spiritual,” commented, questionably mocking. Sure, I guess it is.

Mostly high, but a few lingering lulls, the ramshackle mystique argued by the dual of each, one, mind. Smiles throughout. Porcelain heads, one of a giant baby and one of a disintegrating unicorn, in fact, both chipping and tumbling, akin the the Father Tray, magically spranging an amorphous jangling, sharp with unexpected jorts and swellness. It was a Soft Opening. Maybe a few. And now that we’ve reached a Physical Release, bred from a blurring, child of baby head come. Insistently it’s still folk, mesmerized, alienized, a projection by a human must be nothing other than human folks.

And so hooray for the States! all spangled with cigarettes and Jim Beam and Budweiser, a steady diet of greasy eggs and rattle-bottle painkillers for worse than the reoccurring cold, broken one day, awestruck at how good you can feel about feeling good to no longer feel bad. This fluid, this is not easy. This comes in waves and spurts. This comes through jeans and fills rabid energies, trickling down the skin a saliva of nostalgia for realinglyreal.

Cool down. Collect up. Have a drink in the tour van that’s really just a small rental car, stenched with ash and sweat, crammed with gear, hustled out, hustled back in, scraping cold dry hands bleeding onto the music. Out of the eyes near the stage, where all is quick, too quick for meditative workings, judging eyes, manipulated, mutilated, lost, pulling some energy you were saving to make this rainy day. And so those moments alone, the 2 of us, listening to pages of Quran, tired and surrounded on the outside of the starship by a displacement that beats you down just enough so you still have the drive to escape, and make it, the next night to the next place. And there’s the first beer upon arrival.

Sanctuary. A pause in the awkward leanings of the day. Hospitables, bohemian non-chalants of the roadsides. staying or moving, a collection of rocks, tumbleweed and blades of grass.

an account of the series of events making up a person's life

Crafted from old bones and new hardware, Moomaw builds shaky songs that remain intimate while drifting and charging off in to masked territory, the sound of waves on the beach bleeding into the hissing of the highway. With the love of lyric and the joy of risk, Moomaw finds those places where delicate folk meets heedless disco, stumbling out into avant noise and ambience before returning home to heartbreaks and vision quests. Hear synthesizers and hand percussion, drum machines and ukelele, vocal loops and musical saw join in chorus with grace and humility. Listen to Moomaw.
