Unicorns…

January 20th, 2010

Bursting through space, time and enchanted forests with glittering wonderment these magnificent beasts billow in like the wind itself imparting magic upon those whose minds allow belief. Come hither. Ride the unicorn love this Friday at a short film screening followed by a live unicorn-based performance by Moomaw. The event is happening in an underground bat cave in Hayes Valley and you are required to bring Champagne or pie.

And if unicorns aren’t your thing, maybe pirates and cowboys are:

Single of “Pirate” available now up for free download on Ondarock compilation

A preview of the upcoming Moomaw record, “Pirate of This Bottled Ship”, is now available for free download as it appears on an Ondarock compilation entitled “OndaDrops Vol.1: Do you know the way to blue?”. Please take a moment to download the whole compilation, as it is lovely and I’m very proud to be a part of it. There are some wonderful words written in Italian as well. I’ve been told what they mean and hope that hope that the lovely Italian-speaking bird who whispered them into my ear before she flew away wasn’t coating them with any of her sugar. Download the song or the whole album here:

A Collection Of Songs To Light The Yule Log With

December 24th, 2009

Last Friday a lovely bunch of Bay Area artists and friends crammed themselves into every square inch of Tory’s house in Mission/Potrero with an unlikely amount of drinks and treats, even for that crowd, and rowdily sang along to eachother’s songs next to a plastic tree and decorations aplenty.

Below is a Youtube playlist (also found on Youtube here: Outta Sight Holiday) with 13 holiday songs, some original and some traditional, from 13 stellar artists. You should be able to press play and pretend you’re there, working towards the gift of a holiday headache, as we all felt the next day!

Let’s face it, these songs go well with alcohol. You can navigate through the songs with this Youtube widget.

If you want even more holiday music, you can always go to and download last year’s holiday show:

I have some new videos up on Youtube from my touring travels. Originally, I was to write a proper tour summary, but there’s so much more to do. So much, so much. If you haven’t already checked out the real gone Tour Journal you should waste a few minutes doing so. It’s full of all the art that you may have put into it when I came and played in your town this past November, totally unedited and full of what exists out there when one travels around:

It’s better than photos and it may be better than videos, but here’s some anyway:

Moomaw (featuring Dusty Di) at Penny Arcade at The Makeout Room in San Francisco

Moomaw in a Yuba City prune orchard, playing Summer Hands to the sunset

Black Forest plays the same orchard, a song called Not Like You Think I Am

Yoko Kikuchi plays By The Trees, by the trees of the orchard

A Fermata plays Chlorophyll, soused with wine, later that night in a rose vineyard in Healdsburg

Moomaw up in Portland playing All The Pieces Of Fire with animals doing things in the background

If you’re thirsty for more holiday things to do please check out Neil Martinson’s Holiday SMiLE on Monday Dec 21 @ The Knockout!

an account of the series of events making up a person's life

this is where I run around and scrape up bits of used-up bio stuff. i'm pretty sure writing bios is causing artists to frown everywhere. boo.

not that i don't like to talk. or that i don't want to talk about myself. i do that stuff plenty. i don't know... i guess it's just weird when you spend all this time updating and writing about what represents YOU at that particular time, that year, that season, that day.

here's something that i wrote once that i didn't hate:

no, never mind... i guess i hate it. i'm going to write something new.

my name is nathan moomaw and now i live in san francisco and i play music there alone and sometime with other people which is great and the reason i play music is because my father plays beautiful folk music and did so when i was young and that was when i was growing up in the woods of western massachussetts near an apple orchard and some other farms and stuff and after that i moved to boston for a number of years and then to new york for a number more and now i'm here trying to have fun and play music and art that makes me and hopefully other people happy.
