Moomaw "26" coverToday is a beautiful day (in San Francisco, at least). The sun is shining, no fog in sight, people smiling AND my album, Moomaw - “26″, is finally OFFICIALLY RELEASED! Yes, that means you can now purchase “26″ in all of its glory.

One song for every month that I was 26 all written and recorded by the end of their respective month, accompanied by journal entry lyrics and artwork. 12 songs, 12 months, 12 pieces of original artwork, 12 journal entries of lyrics, all tied neatly into a nice little package with a CD and 28 pages of full-color bookletage.

I’m still waiting for a few of the distributors to catchup with their cataloging (InSound, mostly), but for now, here’s how you can get your hands on this wonderful relic of my time:

Buy the CD from CDBaby
Or, if you’d rather just own a digital copy, you can purchase it from the iTunes Music Store (search for “Moomaw 26″).

It will make me so happy if you get one of these and listen to it.

CD Release?: Please plan on coming to my CD Release Show on Wed June 4 @ Penny Arcade (3 year anniversary) @ The Makeout Room, San Francisco. I will be sharing the stage with Alina Harding, Bart Davenport and The Mumlers! More info on that to come.

Also, be sure to checkout IndieSolo.com this Friday May 16. Moomaw is going to be the featured artist of that day.

And as always, the May Outta Sight is going to be another wonderful show. This time we have The Aerosols, Joseph Childress and The Clouds. More info on that soon, as well.

Thanks for your support!

It’s all coming back…

IMG_202727 happened to me this past weekend. I had grown so accustomed to 26. As it was the title of my musical project for the year I rarely had that moment so common to people after the age of 5 1/2, when the number of years that one has lived on this earth escapes the mind for a moment too long. For this small reason, if not more, I felt privileged. 26 was also the arbitrary age which, for about the past 14 years, I’ve had an eerie premonition that I would not see past. So for the privilege of 27, I am truly grateful.

26 was quite a year. A year as majestic and loving, as lined with tiny aluminum sparkles yet as sorrowful as any year could hope to be. I sang what I saw, as the bird said. Each new month brought a fresh canvas, ready to be soiled with my rough recordings and childlike artwork. But how to capture and re-project the reflections of a month, within that month, still remains at least a minor mystery to me.

The songbird cries the end of 26

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Oh what a time it’s been. 12 songs written, recorded, and released with artwork and lyrics all within their respective months. More on what this project has meant to me to be posted later. For now, March.

I think this song wraps up the project nicely. I wrote it when I got back from the east coast even though I tried to make some headway before and during tour. If it’s not obvious, the song is a conversation between myself and a songbird. I kept the instrumentation sparse, but it actually took a long time to record.

I also enjoyed sewing the artwork… except when my thread got tangled.

Once again, please take a listen. They’re all up there now. I will be posting soon to recap this whole project.

another poem another song…

I just finished posting February on my 26 project. It’s the second to last installation and I’m still getting them done down-to-the-line. I’m working out a format for next year’s project (next years project? no, it’s not going to be the same… in fact very different, but still a project).
This song has some fun sound textures (in my opinion of course) and I even employed my old electric guitar for a track on it.

Check it out and let me know what you think, you can post comments now!

Peasant roads, songs… sleep soon

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Alright. I just finished January and put it up. I wrote it on my first mandolin that I got about a month and a half ago. I also put in some glockenspiel and hand percussion that I just got around Christmas.

Only 2 months left for 26. March tour plans to be posted soon!

Please take a listen. I’m going to bed.
